Since I migrated, I haven't been able to be as prayerful as I was back home.
And I'm making up for that by reading a Bible verse daily.
Sometimes I forget, but you really didn't have to know that.
So, what I'm getting at is...
KEEPSAKE.
A Sunday segment where I share my verse of the day and, a little (or long) reflection based on my own understanding and experience.
Piloting KeepSake, I have here the longest one I've got in days. This is from Luke 6:43-45.
No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
In easy peasy words: Take the tree as a person, and that each person is identified by who or what they are and what they have to offer to the world. Good can never come out from evil. A person's true self is kept in his or her heart. When that heart overflows it creates the manner of how a person acts.
And however that is, his or her audience can decide whether their good or evil. *grin*
Okay, what I can say to that is... Well... I agree. *laugh*
Basically, it's talking about your identity.
You are what you do.
As much as I want to advise you to be carefully aware of your actions, I'm not going to.
Because being careful about your behavior only shuts YOU in.
I grew up in a place where "You are your family" and "You are your friends".
I came from a very good family and (duh) I am expected to be so.
Oh and I guess I am because I have attracted the best friends I could ask for. *sigh* Such nice humans.
Yeah, we're all good people. But that doesn't mean we're all the same. I'm not as responsible as my parents, nor as reckless as my brothers. I'm not as extreme or as shy as my friends. This is what makes me different. (And, if I may say so, incomprehensible.)
This is what makes YOU different. Don't be ashamed of your family, you can be better. Don't be too proud of them either, you're not all that. Don't choose your friends, however much the peer pressure is, it'll always be up to you to decide.
So, to cut it short, just BE YOURSELF.
Whether you're a good person or not, you have yourself to blame and change.
Have a great week!
